Street theatre heralds Cultural Olympiad
A LARGE-SCALE piece of street theatre will be staged by the sea to kick off a four-year cultural renaissance in Weymouth and Portland.
Veles e Vents, a free event, is to return to Bowleaze Coveway as part of the launch of the Cultural Olympiad at the end of September.
The Olympiad aims to celebrate the cultural and sporting life of Britain in the run-up to the London Olympics 2012. The live performance by Spanish artists the Xarxa Teatre tells the story of a dangerous sea journey using pyrotechnics, sound and light. Youngsters from Weymouth and Portland have also been involved and have worked with Xarxa to produce stories about the sea.
Visitors will be urged to use public transport to get to the show, which begins at 7.30pm on September 26 and 27.
